Holy Trinity

Spa Road, Llandrindod Wells LD1 5EY

Around 1840, a visitor to what there was of Llandrindod described the town as “rough with an appearance of poverty and neglect”. Then came the railway and tourism and the need for a church.

Holy Trinity was opened in 1871 but soon needed to be extended. It was then extended again in 1909. The bell tower dates from the 1990s.

As congregations dwindled over the second half of the 20th century, the North Isle was repurposed as a meeting hub, which it continues to, very successfully, be today. This usage has been helped by the wood pellet boiler, installed under the government scheme, which means that the church is kept warm 24/7.

The Chancel hammer beam roof is of particular interest, as is the wealth of stained glass, a working organ dating from 1875 and many fine tapestries and kneelers. Of historical interest is that the Church was the site for the inauguration of the Church in Wales in 1920 and continues to be used for the selection process for new archbishops.
