St Michael, Cefnllys

Llandrindod Wells LD1 5PD

The Church stands on an ancient religious site likely to date from the eleventh century or earlier, encircled by a round churchyard and with archaeological remains of Cefnllys castle and settlement in the surrounding landscape.

The current building plan and low level fabric is likely to date from the thirteenth century with substantial alterations during subsequent centuries and the whole subject to a thorough restoration in the nineteenth century.

Of particular note are the: Stone font (Norman); Pulpit (1661), apparently made with panels from 17th century box pews; Rood screen (medieval, C15th).
